The Sony CD(s) listed above contain XCP digital rights management (DRM) software. Due to security concerns raised about the use of CDs containing this software on PCs, Sony has recalled these CDs and has asked Amazon.com to remove all unsold CDs with XCP software from our store.
It is good to see retailers taking action to clean up Sony's mess. I hope all retail stores are being this proactive. This is the first I've heard of a retailer actually refunding customers' money. I hope Sony is picking up the tab, but I doubt it.
I checked Amazon.com to see if they were stilling the Dead 60s CDs and saw this:
Availability: THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. If you would like to purchase this title, we recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available.
There was also some language similar to the e-mail I received, indicating there are "security concerns" about the DRM contained on the CD.
I wonder about the artists. How do they feel about this? How do they feel about being the vector for this particular infection? They have been eerily absent from this conversation. I checked the Dead 60s Web site and saw no mention of anything regarding their role, willing or not, in this fiasco.
