Now Available: Monthly Unique Visitors for Websites

audience insight for competitive advantage

You asked for it, so we are ecstatic to announce new monthly unique visitor estimates! As of today, Alexa Advanced and Advanced High Traffic subscribers can access monthly unique visitors metrics for websites.

Unlike any other competitive analytics suite, the unique visitors metric will be updated daily, on a trailing 30-day basis. This exclusivity means you get the clearest picture of a site’s performance and popularity on the web. Introduced as a part of our new Data Lab experience, subscribers will have early access to unique visitors, as well as all the latest metrics our team of data scientists are actively working on.

Unique visitors is a fundamental metric of web analytics that is traditionally used to measure the overall level of traffic to a site. Because it counts the number of unique people that visit a site in a given time, it gives a better sense of a site’s true audience size. That means unique visitors is an excellent tool for market share analysis and benchmarking to evaluate how a site can improve. It also demonstrates merit when securing potential advertisers and investors, as a representation of a site’s impressionable audience size. Finally, it’s a great indicator for determining sales leads. In all, unique visitors is a universal metric that rounds out the total competitive analytics suite.

By definition, unique visitors refers to the number of distinct individuals requesting pages from a website during a designated period, regardless of how many times they visit. It does not count spiders or robots.

As an Advanced or Advanced High Traffic subscriber, you can view monthly unique visitor metrics directly underneath the Global and Country Ranks on a Site Overview page. Initially, monthly unique visitors will be available for top sites in these 6 countries: the United States, Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, and Canada. In the initial release, monthly unique visitors will only be shown for the same country as a site’s displayed country rank. In a subsequent release, MUV metrics will be shown for all 6 countries for highly ranked sites.

Does it give you the company name for sales efforts like AWstats or Lead Forensics?

  • I’ve noticed that Alexa generally under-counts visitors to my site, and I think I know why. In spite of making sure Alexabot has access to every page via robots.txt, it isn’t crawling anywhere near every page on my site. Using all the tools available shows that Alexabot is missing most of the activity on my forum. Which begs the question: how does Alexabot crawl a forum?
